Social rehabilitation program for adults suffering from addiction
Duration of the program: 1 year. After completing the program, there is an opportunity to live in the halfway house of the rehabilitation center for half a year. During the program, participants of the rehabilitation program live permanently in the rehabilitation center, they are provided with food, clothing, hygiene products. On average, 12 people live in the “House of Mercy of Bethlehem”.
The program runs in four phases, each of which has defined goals, tasks, opportunities and limitations. The duration of each phase is determined by the dynamics of the client’s recovery, the decision to move to the next stage is made by a team of specialists.
I – Motivation phase (on average 1.5 – 2 months)
Probation period (acquaints with the rules, daily routine, begins adaptation in the environment) and adaptation in the community (social research, development of a rehabilitation plan). It takes place in Pēternieki parish of Olaine county, branch “Pēternieki”.
II – Advanced phase (5 months on average)
Intensive therapeutic work with addiction (group and individual work), self-discovery, expansion of duties and responsibilities within the therapeutic community, stabilization of recovery motivation, gradual involvement in the Alcoholics Anonymous (Narcotics Anonymous, etc.) movement.
III – Social problem solving phase (on average 2.5 months)
Intensive therapy with addiction (group and individual work), cooperation with state and municipal institutions in solving social problems, realization of the chosen profession/qualification direction, personality stabilization, restoration of relations with loved ones, participation in self-help groups of Alcoholics Anonymous (Narcotics Anonymous, etc.), orientation to the future , job search.
IV – Social integration phase (3 months)
Job search and starting the work process, transition to life in a real environment and in a separate rehabilitation center building
Activities included in the rehabilitation program:
- Everyday life and work in the community
- Group therapeutic classes based on 12-step principles
- Psychologist consultations, art therapy classes, art classes (clay workshop)
- Restoration and strengthening of life and work skills
- Consultations of a social worker in the course of solving social problems
- Getting to know the Holy Scriptures, daily prayer, opportunity to talk with the chaplain
- Attending cultural events
- Together, we will look for opportunities to resume paid work according to opportunities and abilities
The main rules of the rehabilitation program:
No use of alcohol and other intoxicating substances, smoking is not allowed
There is no emotional and physical aggression
Abstaining from sexual relations
Active participation in the program
Customer confidentiality is maintained
Self-responsibility, self-care
Specific rules:
In phase I, II, III – movement outside the rehabilitation area is limited, accompanied by an employee or an elder of the client group; limited access to the telephone (in phase I there is no communication with relatives, friends); meetings with friends, relatives – starting from the 6th month of the program, in coordination with the program manager.
In phase III – leaving the territory of the rehabilitation center – for solving social problems, visiting institutions, on holidays – free time outside the territory of the rehabilitation center.
Tasks of the rehabilitation program:
- Strengthen motivation for life without psychoactive substances or processes
- Restoring physical and psychological health, accepting acquired incurable health damage that occurred as a result of addiction
- Identify and reduce personality tendencies, destructive habits and behavior patterns acquired as a result of the use of psychoactive substances or processes in childhood and youth
- To train rationally, to solve problem situations in everyday life sensibly
- Promote psychological and social maturity
- Learn/renew life and work skills
- To restore relations with loved ones
- Realize your professional wishes, opportunities, increase your professional qualifications, start working at the end of the program
- Integrate into sobriety groups and activities to continue recovery after completing a rehab program
To enter the program, you need to:
- Be sober – without signs of intoxication.
- Provide a doctor’s notice that you do not suffer from tuberculosis (conclusion of a radiologist) – if there is no such, a referral for examination is given free of charge.
- Be willing to stop your addiction, recover and change your life.
